LMU Law Mock Trial Team Hosts 2021 Kimsey Cup

The Lincoln Memorial University Duncan School of Law (LMU Law) Mock Trial team hosted the third annual 2021 Kimsey Cup Trial Advocacy Competition last week. The internal competition provides students an opportunity to test trial skills. The competition also serves a try-out for members of the Spring Invitational team.

Four teams of student attorneys competed while other students served as lay and expert witnesses. This year’s competition was held in the LMU Law Courtroom where local attorneys and LMU Law faculty judged each round. Friends and family had the opportunity to tune in virtually during the final round.

Second-year law students Jordan Meddings and Geran Minor won the 2021 Kimsey Cup. Meddings was also named best advocate. Meddings and Minor are both members of the LMU Law Mock Trial team and currently serve as the program’s secretary and social chair. Jason Repath, a first-year law student, was recognized as best witness. 

“This year's competition had some of the closest scores that we have seen since the Kimsey Cup began, said Baylee Brown, third-year law student and Mock Trial president. “Jordan and Geran performed remarkably and fought extensive competition in order to take home the gold. Jason showed an excellent level of knowledge and dedication. All competitors should be pleased with their performance this past weekend.”

The internal competition bears the name of Aaron Kimsey, a member of the LMU Law class of 2015. Kimsey has supported LMU Law’s Mock Trial organization and supplied the trophy that is awarded every year.
