LMU Offers Opportunities for Transfer Students

Walter State students visit LMUHarrogate, Tennessee, February 28, 2019 — Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) experienced record undergraduate enrollment growth in the fall, due in large part to transfer students. It’s a trend the University anticipates will continue in fall 2019.

LMU will host Transfer Day Events with local community colleges throughout the spring, allowing partner schools to bring prospective transfers to LMU’s main campus in Harrogate, Tennessee, to tour campus, meet with academic advisors and other key staff, as well as sitting in on classes and meeting current LMU students. A Walters State Community College event was held earlier this month and events for Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College and Mountain Empire Community College students are scheduled in March.

Among the many reasons transfer students should consider LMU are:

  • Pathways to challenging curriculums and baccalaureate degrees in a variety of programs of study
  • Opportunities to continue on in graduate and professional degree programs in business, education, nursing, law, physician assistant studies, osteopathic medicine and veterinary medicine
  • Articulation agreements that could help students graduate quicker and save money
  • LMU awards over $11 million in institutional aid and nearly $600,000 in privately funded scholarships each year

LMU has articulation agreements with Tennessee, Kentucky and Virginia community colleges, which enables transfer students who have earned associate of arts or associate of science degrees [awarded after January 2, 2010, in a university parallel program (typically consisting of 41-49 semester credit hours of general education coursework in the liberal arts disciplines)] to enter LMU, having met LMU’s general education core, with the exception of the mission specific Lincoln courses. Some students may be required to complete additional general education coursework in order to meet the University’s expected learning outcomes, core licensure or certification requirements.

This year, U.S. News and World Report named LMU as the number one best value among south regional universities. Additionally, a recent study of student debt averages revealed that LMU had one of the lowest student debt averages in the nation and the lowest in the state of Tennessee. While 98 percent of LMU undergraduate students receive some form of institutional aid, transfer students have even more opportunities through the Trustee Transfer Scholarship. The award is a full scholarship presented by LMU to recipients who are selected by the administration of their community college based on leadership and character. The scholarship, which has been awarded since 2010, is awarded annually to a transfer student from Walters State, Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College and Mountain Empire Community College.

Lincoln Memorial University is a values-based learning community dedicated to providing educational experiences in the liberal arts and professional studies. The main campus is located in Harrogate, Tennessee.
