J. Frank White Academy Attending World School in Romania

jfwaworldschoolromaniaHarrogate, Tennessee, September 21, 2019 —Three students from the J. Frank White Academy (JFWA) of Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) will represent the United States at World School International Forum in Iasi, Romania, September 22 – October 5. The cultural exchange program brings together high school students and teachers from 21 countries to create a network of friendships, broaden perspectives and develop globally minded future leaders.

Olivia Nichols a junior from Tazewell, Tennessee, Mackenzie Graham, a sophomore from Harrogate, Tennessee, and Anna Posey, a senior from Tazewell, Tennessee, accompanied by JFWA Spanish instructor Zachary Greene make up Team USA. The students competed for the three spots through a rigorous application and interview process in May 2019. As part of the preparation for the trip, the students created a dance routine, choreographed to a medley of American music through the decades. All schools participating will share a culturally relevant performance.

“The 2019 delegation has worked hard to prepare for this year’s forum,” Greene said. “They have conducted research and gathered evidence to carry with us to Romania in order to contribute to the themed conversation of consumption versus consumerism. The J. Frank White Academy always sends an all-star group to World School, and this year is no different.”

Kanto International High School in Katsura, Japan, organizes and hosts World School International Forum every other year. It alternates to a different host country when not in Japan. This year the host school is Costache Negruzzi High School in Romania. LMU and JFWA hosted World School in 2002 and 2012, and sends a delegation each year.

Created in 1997 by Masaki Matsudaira, a former chairman and current adviser to Kanto International School, World School aims to create a truly borderless entity that will bring together high school students and teachers from all areas of the world to help the participants create their image of an ideal educational program. The program trains students to adopt a global perspective by becoming receptive to differences.

This year students will tackle the issue of consumption versus consumerism and work in groups to create a culminating presentation of solutions. During the homestay portion of the program, students will spend eight days living with Romanian families.

Countries represented at World School include Australia, Canada, China, Finland, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Macao, New Zealand, Romania, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States of America, and Vietnam.
