Harrogate, Tennessee, April 10, 2019 – The Pediatrics Club of Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine is hosting a fundraiser for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation on Friday, April 12, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Tex Turner Arena on the LMU main campus in Harrogate, Tennessee.
The community is invited to attend the family friendly event, which will include delicious BBQ from Shelly Belle’s Restaurant as well as games and activities for all ages. Students and faculty have signed up to shave their heads or beards, or donate their hair to honor children and families who have battled pediatric cancer. The students have raised $2,942 thus far. The public is invited to participate; however, shaving is not required and donations will be accepted.
St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity that funds childhood cancer research. The organization annually grants more funding in childhood cancer research than any organization except the U.S. government. Because children with cancer often lose their hair during treatment, "shavees" for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation show their support by shaving their heads voluntarily, and inspiring friends and family to donate money to support childhood cancer research. St. Baldrick’s head-shaving events began as a challenge between businessmen and have grown from one event in 2000 to over 1,000 events in 2019, raising critical funds for childhood cancer research. By participating in one of these events, it will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
