HARROGATE, Tennessee, August 13, 2018 - One of the highlights of the launch of the 2018-2019 academic year was the second LMU-CVM Career Fair. August 9-11, 2018, the Clinical Relations and Outreach team and the Career Services and Professional Development team hosted a variety of career fair events at the DeBusk Veterinary Teaching Center. The event sponsors included Community Veterinary Partners, Ethos Veterinary Health, Pet Partners, Southern Veterinary Partners, VCA, and WellHaven Pet Health.
The three day agenda focused on meeting the needs of the clinical and pre-clinical CVM students. The students received a comprehensive overview of today’s veterinary job market by attending presentations on resume writing, how to prepare and successfully participate in job interviews and the steps of how to professionally negotiate contracts. Many students participated in mock interviews and had their resume reviewed by highly experienced veterinary hospital leadership teams. Plus, several of the fourth-year students interviewed for veterinary positions that will be immediately available when they graduate. The capstone event of the weekend was the Career Day Exhibits where a wide range of veterinary clinics and companies interacted with our students concerning opportunities across the veterinary spectrum. The fair included two superb hours of clinical nutrition continuing education presented by Dr. Lindsey Bullen of the Veterinary Specialty Hospital of the Carolinas. The next LMU-CVM Career Fair will be held in the late summer of 2019 and feedback from the 2018 Career Fair will be utilized to make improvements for next year’s events.
