Boehringer Ingelheim Veterinary Scholars Program

The objective of the Boehringer Ingelheim Veterinary Scholars Program (BIVSP) at LMU-CVM is to provide veterinary students a concentrated research-training program during the summer, allowing them to gain insight on career opportunities in biomedical research. Students will perform full-time research under the supervision of their faculty mentors and participate in all activities of their host laboratories. Students will be exposed to all aspects of research, including formulation of a hypothesis, designing of experiments, preforming bench research, analysis of data, and presentation of results. Students will be working full-time for 10 weeks in the host labs and will receive a stipend for $6,500. Students selected for the program are eligible to participate in the National Veterinary Scholars Symposium hosted each summer. Students participating in the BIVSP are expected to present the results of their research findings at the LMU-College of Veterinary Medicine Phi Zeta Research Day.

This year we have four openings for LMU-CVM students. Preference will be given to those who have no or little research experience beyond undergraduate research. Application deadline is Friday, March 10, 2023. Applicants will be notified of the outcome within 2-3 weeks of the application deadline.   •   ELIGIBILITY

    Veterinary students in their first or second year of veterinary school are encouraged to apply. Applicants should be in good academic standing. Boehringer Ingelheim program restricts participation to one year.

  •   MENTOR SELECTION

    Students will select a mentor prior to applying to the program. Students should reach out to potential mentors directly to discuss opportunties.

  •   SELECTION CRITERIA

    The applications will be evaluated on a competitive basis by the research committee, based on the candidate's academic performance, clear understanding of the project and recommendation from proposed faculty mentor.
