Family Nurse Practitioner

Take your Nursing career to the next level.

Are you a registered nurse ready to advance your career? Family Nurse Practitioners fill a crucial role in the healthcare setting, providing care for families across the life span. Lincoln Memorial University offers both a seated and online FNP program, with experienced and caring faculty.

The Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree program, Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) concentration, prepares nurses in an advanced practice role with competencies in family health promotion and culturally competent clinical management of common conditions across the life span. The 17-month FNP concentration requires 43 semester hours of graduate course work including a minimum of 660 clinical hours. A comprehensive exam is required during the final semester. Students also complete a directed scholarly project. Students may only transfer a maximum of six (6) credit hours toward degree requirements.

Certification

In Tennessee and in many states, being recognized as an advanced practice nurse requires a master's degree in nursing and national certification. Completion of the FNP concentration provides the eligibility requirements for the FNP certification examinations offered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). If you plan to practice in a state other than Tennessee, it will be important to contact the state board of nursing for details about advanced practice nursing in that state.
