How is the ASN different from the BSN? Is one better than the other?
Either program is a great option. The difference lies in what YOU want to do with your future career in nursing. Both degrees prepare you to sit for the RN licensure exam (NCLEX-RN) at the completion of classes. Those interested in getting a master's degree in nursing (nurse practitioner, nurse anesthetist, nurse education, etc), and those interested in nursing management within hospitals and the community, will need a BSN degree; otherwise both the ASN and BSN graduates can be RNs, with little or no difference in pay or roles. Student who complete the ASN program can then complete an RN-BSN program.

Must I have all of my prerequisites completed before starting my Nursing courses?
To enter the ASN program, no, but we strongly recommend that MOST or all of the prerequisites are completed. We want you to have completed both Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II with labs, and College Algebra before beginning the NURS courses. For other prerequisites, refer to the courses listed under the program you are interested in.
To enter the BSN program, you must have all prerequisite courses completed. Due to the accelerated nature and the intensity of the BSN program, these must be completed at the end of the summer before beginning nursing courses in the fall.

Must I have all my prerequisites completed before I apply to the Nursing program?
No, you may apply to the program with prerequisite courses in progress.

I need all of my clinicals on a certain day of the week. Is this possible?
When you register for classes, you are ONLY registering for classes. The instructor of each class will assign students to clinicals prior to beginning of classes. On the first day of class, you may talk to your instructor, but there is NO guarantee of what day(s) you will have clinical UNTIL you start classes. The instructor can only work around your LMU class schedule.
-
How many days a week will I have classes/clinicals?
For the ASN, students will have classes one day a week and clincials one day a week during their first semester. For all subsequent semesters, students will have classes two days a week and clincials two days a week.
For the BSN, students will have classes two days a week and clincials two days a week, with the remaining day of the week for labs and clincial prep.
