    1. Providing direct patient care services in accordance with legal, ethical, and institutional standards through the evaluation of patients and therapeutic treatment as ordered by Health Services clinical staff;
    2. Perform nursing duties within the scope of the current licensure;

    12. Assist the mid-level practitioners and physicians in the management and oversight of chronic care clinics;
    13. Review clinical records to ensure data is entered legibly and in the appropriate section of the medical record;
    14. Possess knowledge of treatment of chronic health problems, i.e., hypertension, diabetes, and asthma;
    15. Initiate emergency care as needed according to community standards;

    Directs Patient Care Technician’s provision of safe and effective delivery of chronic hemodialysis therapy to patients in compliance with standards outlined in the facility policy procedure manuals, as well as regulations set forth by the corporation, state, and federal agencies.
    Delegates tasks to all direct patient care staff including but not limited to LVN/LPNs, Patient Care Technicians, and Dialysis Assistants.
    Assesses daily patient care needs and develops appropriate patient care assignments.
    Routinely monitors patient care staff for appropriate techniques and adherence to facility policy and procedures.

    Participates in all required staff meetings as scheduled.

    Ensures educational needs of patients and family are met regarding End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).
    Provides ongoing education to patients regarding their renal disease, vascular access and dialysis therapy, and other related health conditions.
    Discusses with patient, and records education related to diet/fluid and medication compliance.
    Provides patient specific detailed education regarding adequacy measures where applicable - Online Clearance Monitoring (OLC), Adequacy Monitoring Program (AMP), Urea Kinetic Modeling (UKM).
    Ensures transplant awareness, modality awareness, and drive catheter reduction.
    Educates patients regarding laboratory values and the relationship to adequate dialysis therapy, compliance with treatment schedule, medications, and fluid.

    The Summer Institute is designed to identify and support talented undergraduate students from a broad range of backgrounds interested in the study of economics. Our goal is to diversify the pool of students majoring in economics, who may go on to a graduate program of study or a career drawing on this important skill set.

    Each year, BFI will admit a cohort of up to 40 students to the Summer Institute, who will engage in daily lectures and skill-building coursework as well as other activities to promote networking. Participants will be exposed to a range of economic topics taught by some of the most innovative faculty in the field. The Summer Institute will also promote a mentoring network, linking participants with faculty for guidance and support and providing opportunities for ongoing research experience during the academic year.

    Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and public safety concerns, the 2021 Summer Institute will be held virtually. For students accepted to the Summer Institute, BFI will provide a stipend of $1,200. Students who are Pell Grant recipients will receive a stipend of $2,400. In future years, BFI will cover costs of travel and housing for Summer Institute participants for on-campus programing.
