LMU Law Welcomes Largest Entering Class Ever

Knoxville, Tennessee, August 11, 2017— The Lincoln Memorial University Duncan School of Law (LMU Law) welcomed its largest class to date this week as classes got underway on Monday, August 7, 2017. Over a hundred new students joined the LMU Law academic community, making it the largest entering class of law students in LMU history.

The 99 first-year law students came to LMU Law from 60 undergraduate institutions across 21 states. The new law students attended Bridge Week activities July 31-August 4, culminating in a Swearing-In Ceremony presided over by LMU Law Vice President and Dean Gary Wade. During the ceremony, students pledged to pursue their legal studies acknowledging and accepting the high ethical standards and responsibilities that accompany such an undertaking. They pledged to conduct themselves with the dignity befitting the legal profession and committed to serve without prejudice.

“There is both quality and quantity in the incoming class,” Wade said. “Two years ago, the faculty and staff established a goal of 200 students for the school.  Together, we have exceeded expectations. Our academic community is vibrant, energized and excited to serve all of our students.”

LMU Law also welcomed a dozen transfer students during the first week of classes. The new students will push LMU Law’s total enrollment to 233, an all-time high.

LMU Law has grown steadily since receiving provisional approval from the American Bar Association in 2014. Under the leadership of Judge Wade, the institution has celebrated several milestones including the highest first-time pass rate in school history in July 2016, being named the Top Law School for Bar Preparation by National Jurist and a 100 percent overall employment rate for May 2015 graduates, including 94% full-time, long-term employment and 82% in J.D.-required employment. Since the law school graduated its first class in May 2013, 93 percent of LMU Law graduates who have taken a bar exam have passed it.

The Lincoln Memorial University Duncan School of Law is located in Knoxville’s Historic Old City Hall Building. LMU Law is an integral part of LMU’s values-based learning community, and is dedicated to preparing the next generation of lawyers to provide sound legal service in the often underserved region of Appalachia and beyond.
