Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum

Museum Closure

Celebrate the Museum's Place in Our Community As it Prepares to Expand for a New Generation
Saturday, July 20, 2019, will be the final day that the Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum is open until our new, 3.6 million dollar expansion goes into effect. Once the project begins, the Museum will be closed until late 2020. Over the course of its history, Lincoln Memorial University's museum has taken several forms; it once was a room in Duke Hall until a building to store the collection was supported by a generous matching donation by Col. Harland Sanders in 1977. In the summer of 2018, the museum added on the Kincaid Gallery, made possible by the estate of Hansel O. and Dorothy M. Kincaid. Now, two new galleries, an elevator, and a learning lab will be built into the museum, providing more opportunities to learn about and experience the life of Abraham Lincoln, the Civil War, and the founding of Lincoln Memorial University. As a result of the heavy construction, however, the Museum will be closed during the renovations.

The Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum invites the public to celebrate the role of the Museum within the community with a free party from 10am until 6pm on Saturday, July 20. Join us for a free day of fun activities! Events include...

A special cake and punch, served from 11:00am until 12:00pm

Our popular Vault Treasures tour from 12:00pm until 6:00pm, which gives visitors the rare opportunity to see specially protected and rarely displayed Lincoln artifacts, such as locks of family hair and other signed Civil War documents (this is the only event during the day where a timed ticket is needed)

Kids crafts throughout the day, along with a selfie station where all visitors can tag their photos with #LincolnLegacy2020

Documentaries playing within the Museum's auditorium

The opportunity to mail a museum postcard to yourself in the future, stating your goals for the next year and a notification when the museum reopens its doors

A memory wall where visitors are invited to share favorite museum trips throughout the years, whether it was a trip to the original Lincoln Room in Duke Hall, the opening of the Museum in 1977, or school trips throughout the years

A 50% off sale in the museum gift shop as we prepare to rebrand our store

We look forward to sharing this special day with our community and also informing you of how we will continue to be a part of the cultural landscape in the upcoming year! Register for the free event here.
