Congratulations! You are about to begin one of the most exciting chapters in your life. Law is a demanding, noble profession offering the potential for a rewarding and fulfilling career. We want to make sure you have all the information you need to start your journey. To get started, here's what you need to do:
If you have not already requested that final official transcripts be sent to the LSAC's Credential Assembly Service from every educational institution attended since you graduated from high school, then you should do so as soon as possible. The Service will provide us with verification of receipt of all transcripts once they have been authenticated. If you need help, the LSAC website has additional information about requesting transcripts.
Before matriculation, at least one transcript must indicate the award of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution recognized by the United States Department of Education. If you will earn a degree after you initially requested a transcript, you must request a new, updated transcript be sent to the Credential Assembly Service once the degree has been awarded.

All students are under a continuous obligation to inform us of any changes to information contained in their law school applications. Breach of this disclosure obligation could result in sanctions. This includes any changes in address, phone numbers, or email addresses; arrests; financial commitments; tickets; or becoming a party to a lawsuit, etc. Should anything change, please provide a complete explanation and send it to us.
We cannot overemphasize the importance of this obligation. Fear of embarrassment or concerns about bar admission often motivate students to conceal personal information they might not want to disclose. However, hiding this information in the face of a disclosure obligation is a form of misconduct that raises concerns about your character and fitness to practice law. The board of bar examiners in the state where you plan to take the bar exam requires that you undergo a criminal and financial background check. You will have to explain any discrepancies between these search results, the contents of your bar application, and information in your law school file. Failure to address any inconsistencies may prevent you from obtaining bar admission. Therefore, failure to disclose information to us over the duration of your studies not only violates our Code of Conduct but can jeopardize your eligibility to sit for state bar examinations.
You may register for financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Be sure to select LMU as your school. The Federal School Code for LMU is 003502. LMU's main campus is located in Harrogate, Tennessee, so, notwithstanding the fact that the law school is located in Knoxville, please use the code listed. Please register for financial aid as early as possible, as this will determine when funds are disbursed. There is additional information on our Student Financial Services page.
Notification of financial aid will be sent to your LMU email address once the Office of Student Financial Services has received notification that the U.S. Department of Education has processed your FAFSA. Remember, you must sign your Master Promissory Note (if financial aid has been requested) electronically and complete your Entrance Counseling on the FAFSA website before financial aid can be awarded.
Per U.S. Department of Education regulations, financial aid will be disbursed approximately three to four weeks after school begins each semester.

Matriculating students must attend Orientation and the start of classes. Other important dates throughout the year are recorded on the academic calendar. The academic calendar is available on this site under "Current Students" and then "Academic Calendar."

You should provide your own laptop computer or tablet. We will provide any software necessary for your course of study. We have on-site technical support should you have any issues. LMU Law is a non-residential campus. If you do not already live in the Knoxville area, then you will need to find a place to live. Apartments and housing closest to downtown and the University of Tennessee do not stay vacant for long. However, the law school is easily accessible from the interstate, and rush-hour traffic is not very heavy. LMU Law provides remote access to library resources, a valuable asset for students who commute longer distances. We also have plenty of small rooms where students can study to avoid going home between classes.
Housing opportunities can be located through the LMU Law Student Bar Association website or in the Knoxville Apartment Guide.
Once you have accepted an offer and we have received your acceptance forms, we will send information to your class's Facebook page. On the site, you can introduce yourself, look for a roommate, or ask questions of your classmates. The Office of Admissions does not monitor the site. LMU Law does not provide parking for students; however, several parking areas are close to the law school. We will provide contact information for nearby lots and garages.
