Course Description: This course provides a clinically focused overview of cannabis and cannabinoid use as it relates to contemporary dental practice. Emphasis is placed on the pharmacology of THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids; their effects on oral tissues, inflammation, pain perception, and healing; and practical considerations for anesthesia, informed consent, and patient safety. The course also addresses evolving federal and state policies and DEA regulatory frameworks that influence cannabis research, product availability, and professional responsibilities in dentistry. Emerging evidence on non-intoxicating cannabinoids, particularly CBD, will be discussed as a potential anti-inflammatory adjunct, with clear distinction between investigational applications and established standards of care. The goal is to equip dental professionals with evidence-based knowledge to safely assess, document, and manage patients who use cannabis or cannabinoid-based products.
