Harrogate, Tennessee, December 19, 2017 – Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) celebrated the completion of the steel framework for the LMU-College of Veterinary Medicine (LMU-CVM) building on Saturday, December 9. At the beam signing ceremony all attendees signed a steel beam in recognition of the milestone in the building’s completion. The state-of-the-art facility is due to be completed in January of 2019.
“We’ve been planning the design of this new building for so long, and now we are getting to watch our vision become a reality, and it’s exciting,” said Dr. Jason Johnson, vice president and dean of LMU-CVM. “This new facility marks a milestone in the history of the college, and partnered with our DeBusk Veterinary Teaching Center in Ewing, Virginia, will be an incredible asset to our students, faculty and staff as we continue to grow over the next decade.”
The College of Veterinary Medicine building is three stories high and covers over 85,000 square-feet of space. The facility will include two large lecture halls which can join to accommodate over 500 people, 24 state-of-the art communications laboratories, simulation laboratories, basic and clinical sciences classrooms, numerous study rooms, student break areas, student and academic services offices, clinical relations offices and the deans’ suite. The building will also provide research space, including a home for the Center for Animal and Human Health in Appalachia.
“I would be remiss to not mention that all of this would not be possible without the extraordinary vision of our chairman, Dr. Pete DeBusk,” Johnson said. “Pete grew up in Virginia and attended veterinary school for two years himself when he was younger. To this day, he continues to share his passion for the Appalachian region and the veterinary profession through LMU, and we are fortunate to join with him to make his vision become a reality.”
