Harrogate, Tennessee, April 10, 2019— Three faculty members and 12 students from J. Frank White Academy (JFWA) of Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) visited London and Paris, March 22-29, and spent spring break touring iconic landmarks and experiencing local culture.
JFWA coordinates a faculty-led spring break trip each year, offering students and parents the opportunity for international travel through Education First (EF) Educational Tours. The 2019 excursion highlights included the British Museum, Hyde Park, the Tower of London, the London Eye, St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Louvre, Versailles and a cruise on the Seine.
“As our school has grown, we have found offering international travel opportunities to be an invaluable part of helping our students become well-rounded and better prepared for the dynamic challenges they’ll face as citizens and professionals,” said JFWA Principal Bobby Lockhart. “To say that these trips are life-altering for some of our students is an understatement.”
JFWA instructors/trip leaders Delaina Rhodes, Robbie Thomas and Curtis Massengill accompanied seniors Nicholas Lockhart (New Tazewell, Tennessee) and Rose Mountain (New Tazewell, Tennessee); juniors Alan Luc (Middlesboro, Kentucky), Dustin Daniels (Harrogate, Tennessee), Anna Posey (Tazewell, Tennessee) and Carson Shumate (Middlesboro, Kentucky); sophomores Presley Cole (Maynardville, Tennessee) and Ethan Shumate (Middlesboro, Kentucky); freshmen Jacob Christopher (Middlesboro, Kentucky) and Samuel Rhodes (Luttrell, Tennessee); eighth-grader Cailtin Davis (LaFollette, Tennessee) and seventh-grader Taylor Kohlmeyer (LaFollette, Tennessee). Several parents and friends of JFWA made the journey as well.
JFWA has offered trips through EF Tours for over a decade to destinations in Europe and South America. The program provides monthly payment plans for packages that include airfare, transportation, hotels, most meals and a bilingual tour guide. In spring 2020, JFWA will travel to Scotland and England. The opportunity is available to eighth through twelfth-graders and parents. Younger students may participate if accompanied by a parent or guardian.
EF tours began in 1965 and is built on experiential learning, cultural immersion and authentic connections. EF educational travel and cultural exchange programs provide international and domestic travel experiences, hands-on learning and lasting cultural connections for both students and adults.
