November 18-19, 2009 - The presidential search committee hosted four prospective candidates for off-campus interviews.  Those candidates selected to move forward in the process will be invited to Harrogate to engage in campus and community conversations.  These further discussions will take place in mid-to-late January.


October 29, 2009 - The Presidential Search Committee met on Tuesday, October 13, 2009, to begin the initial discussion of the search process.  Dr. Dawson, committee chair, presented an informal timeline for the process and the committee agreed to submit initial responses to the review of the candidates by Friday, October 23rd.  The first round of interviews for selected candidates will take place November 19 and 20 in Knoxville, with final interviews being done in January.  The committee will reconvene on Thursday, October 29, for further planning and discussion.


August 31, 2009 - Harrogate, Tennessee— Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) has officially launched a national public search for the University’s 20th President. The University has formed a search committee, developed a presidential search website and begun advertising for the position in higher education publications including the Chronicle of Higher Education.

With Chief Operating Officer and Chancellor of the Harrogate campus Jim Dawson in place at the main campus in Harrogate, Tenn., Interim President C. Warren Neel has turned his focus to the presidential search. Neel and Dawson are joined on the search committee by LMU Trustees Gary Burchett and Richard Gillespie; Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Sherilyn Emberton, Vice President for University Advancement Cindy Whitt, Vice President and Dean of LMU-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine Ray Stowers; faculty members Dr. Vina Faulkner, chair of allied health sciences, Dr. Mary Ann Modrcin, dean of the Caylor School of Nursing, Dr. John Odell, chair of graduate education and Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs Evelyn Smith. The committee will meet to review initial applicants in October.

Since 2003, LMU’s enrollment has increased 61 percent. The University has expanded from its liberal arts core and now offers advanced professional degrees in osteopathic medicine, law, business, nursing and education. Candidates are asked to submit a letter of interest addressing the selection criteria, current resume/vita and a list of five professional references. Selected candidates will participate in an off-campus interview process and finalists will complete an on-campus interview. The University’s search committee is encouraging alumni, friends, faculty, staff and students to nominate or recommend candidates.
