How to Search in the Data Base of Abraham Lincoln Library
and Museum
The
music collection is organized in boxes with thirty five folders in each.
Each box holds a specific genre or genres in alphabetize order of the
titles.
There
are multiple ways to search the search this collection title, composer,
arranger, lyricists, publisher, city of publication, genre (music type or
subject), year and ensemble classification.
Music Collection
You can search for
particular words that appear in the excel sheet by pressing control and F.
You can search for
keywords in as it may appear in the database.
If searching for
genres see the specific accession number and box for that genre.
If searching for
the title excluding “a”, “an” and “the”, this also including these words in
French,
Germany
and Italian.
If searching for
composer, arranger and lyricist type in last name and first name. Some names
may appear abbreviated as it is written on the sheet music.
If searching for a
publisher, city of publication and year simply type as it would appear on
the any sheet music collection
If searching for
ensemble classification type voice or piano and it will bring up all lines
containing voice or piano. When searching ensemble classification note that
solo voice includes an accompaniment usually with the piano unless specified
in database.
If searching in
the Broadside database it can also searched by melody and if it is
illustrated.
If searching in
Bound volumes, songsters, references books and posters it can be searched by
Type of material needed.
If searching in
Stephen Collins Foster Music Collection it can be searched if it is a
facsimile or an original.
You can also search through
the online piper catalog at
Lincoln
Memorial
University
at the Carnegie-Vincent Library.
