President Lincoln Wants YOU for Lincoln’s Army! Will you answer the call?

 

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have been a soldier during the Civil War? Now you can have your chance to find out! The Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum is proud to offer you the chance to join Lincoln’s Army at the official rank of Private. If you decide to join, you will receive a membership card which will let you into the museum free when you are accompanied by a paying adult! You can keep up with other Lincoln Army members through the official Lincoln Letters for Kids which will come out every fall, winter, spring and summer. All you have to do is ask your parents if they will let you send your name, address and the name of your school to the following address:

Become a Part of the Force!

 

The mission for all soldiers belonging to Lincoln’s Army is to learn as much as possible about all the soldiers from both the north and the south who fought in the civil War. Soldiers who are eager to learn about the Civil War will advance from the status of Private on up to the rank Colonel. There are many way that you can move up in rank! For every activity that you complete, you will be given a certain number of points. Soldiers who reach a certain number of points will be advanced as follows:

  • Private: 0-99 points

  • Specialist: 100-199 points

  • Sergeant: 200-299 points

  • Master Sergeant: 300-399 points

  • Sergeant Major: 400-499 points

  • Second Lieutenant: 500-599 points

  • First Lieutenant: 600-699 points

  • Captain: 700-799 points

  • Major: 800-899 points

  • Lieutenant Colonel: 900-999 points

  • Colonel: 1000 points

So how do you get points? You can…

  • Email or mail a question about the Civil War for five points

  • Email or mail a paper describing a book you read about the Civil War for 10 points

  • Email or mail a paper you have written about an event or person in the Civil War that interests you for 20 points

  • Attend a Lincoln’s Army Activity for 25 points

We have members from Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, Louisiana, Iowa, North Carolina, Ohio, Indiana, New York, Arkansas, Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Georgia, Michigan, California, Alabama and South Carolina!
