Library Departments
- Administration:
- Responsible for the
overall operation of the library
- Administers the
effective and efficient operation of all aspects of library services
- Develops and implements policies and procedures, in consultation with the Library
Committee, necessary for the operation and promotion of the library
- Coordinates the
development of the library collection, and maintains a collection
responsive to the needs of the faculty, staff, and students
- Promotes the library to
faculty, staff, and students
- User Services:
-
Provide bibliographic instruction and
reference services to LMU faculty, students and staff, with emphasis on the
University’s programs in Education and the JFWA.

Participates in Information literacy training
for all new freshman and education 210 students under the coordination of
the Information Literacy Librarian.

Provides reference service for residential
and extended campus students and faculty using face-to-face models;
telephone, e-mail, and Web.

Work in coordination with the Information
Literacy Librarian to create, implement and/or maintain innovative
electronic instructional resources including web- based tutorials and online
library guides with responsibilities for special subject areas as assigned.

Assists with assigned semester extended
campus site visits to ensure management of collection development and
library instruction and reference service at extended campus sites.

Select resources in assigned subject areas
for print/electronic collections.

Maintains library reference and circulation
statistics and communicates with Library Director.
-
Participates in faculty and student library
and technology workshops.
-
Remains abreast of current or relevant
professional developments, and educational and other organizations in the
local community environment as related to LMU instruction and library
services.

Recommends and implements appropriate
technology/equipment in support of the user services unit of the
Carnegie-Vincent Library.

Participates in departmental planning and
decision-making and implementation of library and departmental policies.

University Archives and Special
Collections:
- Creates
access to the rich collection of original sources located in the
University Archives and the Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum according
to accepted library standards such as AACR2-R, LCSH, LC Classification
and other metadata schemas and standards
- Provides Reference Services for LMU
Researchers at Museum and within University Archives
- Create archival images and digital
repositories of scanned materials for access and preservation purposes
- Develop and implement appropriate
policies and procedures for cataloging and maintaining the University
Archives and Special Collections
- In collaboration with the Library
Director, prepare grant proposals and other fund raising initiatives
- Organize and implement special
projects, and participate in outreach and educational programs
- Develop and maintain a preservation
plan and quality standards for the Archives and Special Collections
- Create innovative access options for
the Abraham Lincoln Library and the Carnegie-Vincent Library holdings
for searching and retrieval capabilities
- Technical Services:
- Maintains local bibliographic catalog to provide excellent topical
access for catalog users
- Supervises acquisition procedures for new physical and electronic
library collections, as coordinated by the Director of Library Services

Organizes
and distributes periodical collections as available
- Accepts gifts on behalf of the library
- Responsible for original and copy
cataloging
- Maintains the library website, in
conjunction with Information Literacy Librarian
- Develops electronic systems to
capture and reflect library holdings
- Administrates the integrated library
management system
- Oversees
acquisitions, serials, and technical
processing
- Oversees Interlibrary Loan Services
for faculty, staff and students at LMU
- Oversees the bookkeeping component
of the technical services office
- Makes recommendations for full text
electronic resource delivery to library patrons based on subject
specialist collection development needs.
- Participates in Information literacy

- Information Literacy:
- Maintains local bibliographic catalog to provide excellent topical
access for catalog users
- Promote the mission of Lincoln Memorial University to all faculty,
staff, students, and to the community at large.
- In collaboration with the Library
Director, develops an information literacy program, ensuring the use of
appropriate assessment tools to gauge the value and quality of the
library’s program.
- Coordinates and provides library instruction, i.e., orientation for
new and transfer students and library instruction for research classes
and by invitation.
- Oversees and coordinates Information literacy training for all new
freshman and education 210 students.
- Provides reference service for residential and extended campus
students and faculty using face-to-face models; telephone, e-mail, and
Web.
- Conducts faculty/staff workshops about information literacy topics.
- Creates, implements and/or maintains innovative electronic
instructional resources including web- based tutorials and online
library guides with responsibilities for special subject areas as
assigned.
- Maintains database usage statistics and communicates with vendors
and ACA technicians, as necessary.
- Assists with updating and maintenance of library website.
- Assists with assigned semester extended campus site visits to ensure
management of collection development and library instruction and
reference service at extended campus sites.
- Establishes appropriate learning outcomes linked to the library
instructional content and assesses such outcomes on an annual basis.
- Participates in faculty and student library and technology
workshops.
- Select resources in assigned subject areas for print/electronic
collections.
- Participate in departmental planning and decision-making and
implementation of library and departmental policies.
- Reference and Bibliographic Instruction:
- Prepares, maintains, and narrates
collection of unit level documentation to support the strategic planning
process including statistical information, periodic and other reports,
outcomes assessment, proposed annual budget, surveys, and others as
required.
- Establishes appropriate learning
outcomes linked to the user services department and assesses such
outcomes on an annual basis;
provides assistance to the library director as needed to monitor and
maintain contracts and/or reciprocal agreements.
- Assists with the development and
implementation of appropriate policies and procedures for public
services.
- Oversees Circulation Department
daily operations, including audiovisual equipment.
- Coordinates student workers’
schedules and trains and manages student workers in the library.
- Coordinates library staff schedules
for Reference Desk and library coverage for the main library.
- Coordinates semester site visits
with appropriate library and campus site personnel to ensure management
of collection development and library instruction and reference service
at extended campus sites.
- Provides reference service for
residential and extended campus students and faculty using face-to-face
models; telephone, e-mail, and Web.
- Provides library instruction, i.e.,
orientation for new and transfer students and library instruction for
research classes and by invitation.
