Ana M. Ortiz

Ana Ortiz is a bilingual adjunct professor at Lincoln Memorial University-Duncan School of Law.  Professor Ortiz comes to Knoxville from New York City, New York.  She holds a Juris Doctorate Degree from Rutgers State University (1984) and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice.  Professor Ortiz is a member of the New Jersey Bar.  She is teaching Employment Law at Duncan School of Law (DSOL), summer session 2011.

Professor Ortiz has worked as a contract attorney for 14 years, during which she has represented major financial institutions and corporations. She is also a teacher, gaining experience at Seton Hall Law School in Newark, New Jersey, teaching third year law students in the areas of Housing, Domestic Relations, and Consumer and Public Entitlement Law.  It was there that she administered the Clinical Law Program along with her course responsibilities. 
Professor Ortiz is an active human rights advocate, representing immigrants in asylum cases.  She has worked as a translator for 20 years for such organizations as the Bronx Legal Services, Comprehensive Technologies Inc., International Languages Services, and various law enforcement agencies.

Philip S. Ashley

Philip S. Ashley is an adjunct professor of law teaching at Lincoln Memorial University-Duncan School of Law.  Professor Ashley teaches Federal Income Taxation, an upper level law course. Duncan School of Law welcomes his experience as an Associate Professor of Law at DePaul University College of Law where he has been teaching since 1983. He served as the Associate Dean at DePaul 1982-1984.  Professor Ashley is currently teaching Federal Income Taxation & Tax Policy, Taxation of Corporations & Shareholders and Fundamentals of Property Law, and Survey of Intellectual Property.  He has also taught Partnership Tax, Tax of Mergers and Acquisitions, Business Organizations, Business Planning, Wills, Trusts, and Seminars on Tax Policy, and Economics and the Law.

Professor Ashley received a Bachelor of Arts from Rockford College in Rockford, Illinois in 1970.  He went on to Tulsa University College earning his Juris Doctorate degree and then on to New York University School of Law to receive his Master of Laws in Taxation degree in 1977. 
Professor Ashley served in the United States Army as a military journalist from 1970-1973. 
He is a member of the Supreme Court of Oklahoma, United States Tax Court, United States Court of Claims, Supreme Court of Illinois, and the United States District Court (North District of IL).
Professor Ashley is the General Editor of the Lexis-Nexis five volume treatise Franchising.  Since accepting this position Professor Ashley limits his scholarly publications to three annual updates for that work.  He writes for traditional law review articles and also for Warren, Gorham, & Lamont, Wolters-Kluwer, Dearborn Financial Press and the Illinois Institute of Continuing Education.

Larry V. Roberts

Larry V. Roberts is an adjunct professor of law teaching at Lincoln Memorial University-Duncan School of Law.  Professor Roberts teaches Trial Advocacy, an upper level law course. Duncan School of Law welcomes his experience as a trial lawyer licensed in Tennessee, Virginia, and Florida.  He is the owner/practitioner of The Roberts Law Firm with locations in Kingsport, Johnson City, and Morristown, TN since 1993.

Professor Roberts is one of 13 attorneys in the United States to complete Advanced Studies in Trial Advocacy with the American Association for Justice.  He is one of only 115 attorneys in the United States designated as Diplomat with the American Association for Justice. He belongs to the American Trial Lawyers Association and the Tennessee Association for Justice, and he is also a member of the Tennessee, Virginia, Kingsport, and Washington County Bar Associations.
He is noted as one of the top trial lawyers in the state of Tennessee by the American Trial Lawyers Association, and also as one of the top trial lawyers in America as written in the Million Dollar Advocates Forum
Professor Roberts graduated from Stetson University College of Law (1991), and also from the Trial Lawyers College.  He is certified as a Civil Trial Specialist by both the Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education and Specialization, and the National Board on Trial Advocacy.
