Graduate Federal Loan Programs



Subsidized Federal Stafford Loan
Beginning  July 2012,  The Budget Act of 2011 eliminated  the Subsidized Federal Stafford Loan Program for  Graduate or Professional  degree students.

Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan
Unsubsidized Federal Stafford are non-need based loans with a 6.8 % interest and a 2% admin Fee that is deducted by the Federal Direct loans prior to disbursement. Interest will accrue during periods of enrollment, grace and deferment but does not capitalize until you graduate, withdraw or become less than a part time student.

All Graduate and Professional degree seeking students are entitled to receive Unsubsidized Stafford loans in the amount of $20,500/year unless they have met their aggregate limit on loans.

Federal Graduate PLUS Loans
Federal Graduate PLUS Loans have a fixed interest rate of 7.8%. The maximum amount a student may borrow per academic year is the cost of attendance minus any other financial aid received for that same academic period

A credit check is required for Graduate PLUS Loans. If you have adverse credit, you will be denied by the lender. If you are denied, you may reapply with a credit worthy cosigner. Interest accrues from the time the funds are disbursed. PLUS loan repayment begins within 60 days of disbursement but payment deferment may be requested as long as you are enrolled as at least a part-time student. Interest will accrue during the deferment period.
