Our Services for Students

The Office of Career Services is here to help equip you with the tools and resources you need to launch a successful job search.  While each student is ultimately responsible for their own career planning, our role is to instruct, guide, and facilitate the career development process so that students will be equipped with the skills needed for a lifetime of successful career management.

Counseling
The Office of Career Services provides career counseling to help prepare you for the job market and to help you in career planning.  We encourage you to make an appointment to help you examine your career interests, practice interviewing techniques, or discuss any career related questions that you may have.  Individual counseling can be an invaluable resource in establishing your career plan.  Our goal is to make each student’s career development process as positive as possible by utilizing individual counseling sessions to help guide them through this process and period of career exploration.

Professional Development Programming
We provide professional development programming throughout the academic year.  These programs can include presentations on resume writing, corresponding with potential employers, interviewing skills, and professional etiquette.  We also offer panels and presentations by legal practitioners who can share information about specific practice areas.

Resume/Cover Letter Critique
We are happy to review your resume and/or cover letter and offer suggestions before you apply to an employment opportunity.  Once you have completed your initial draft, email it to the Office of Career Services.  We will provide guidance and feedback in order to help you craft an effective and professional resume.

Online Job Postings
We maintain postings of employment and internship announcements from private and public sector employers.  These postings are located on our Career Services TWEN page.  To access the TWEN page, please click here.  Your Westlaw password is required.

Symplicity
Symplicity is a Career Services Management tool available to students and employers to manage employment opportunities in the legal profession. It is an interactive database of present and past employers; this gives students the opportunity to see the types of positions available and will ultimately permit students to apply online for employers that permit applications in that forum. Students and Employers alike can modify their profiles to display information relevant to their positions. Students also have the added benefit of using a Resume Builder tool within Symplicity to assist them with designing a resume that catches the attention of future employers.

Students log in today to set up your account. Here is the link: https://law-LMUnet-csm.symplicity.com/. Your username is your LMU email address, and your password has been sent to you via email. If you have not received your username and password, please contact Dean Hash to procure one.

Resource Center
The Office of Career Services works hand in hand with the library to develop and maintain career resource materials in the library.  Every effort is made to acquire electronic versions of the career resource materials so that they will be available to all students 24 hours a day.
