Registering for Classes

Use the Registration menu under WebAdvisor to register for classes. LMU offers three options for internet-based registration. You may choose Express Registration, Search/Register for Sections and Register and Drop Sections. Both Express Registration and Search/Register for Sections will place classes on the Preferred Sections List; then you register from the list. Please select the option below that best fits your needs:

Express Registration:

If you know the course number or synonym of the courses you wish to register for, Express Registration may be the quickest and most efficient way to place courses on your wishlist. You will either need to have the course subject/number/section or the course synonym. This information can be found in the column titled Section Name and Title on the Section Selection Results:

Using the synonym to enroll via Express Registration:

If you do not know the synonym(s) for your course(s) proceed to the Using Subject, Course and Section to enroll via Express Registration section of this documentation.

After entering your synonyms, click Submit at the bottom of the screen. The courses you’ve selected will be placed on your Preferred Sections List; you will be automatically directed to the Register and Drop Sections form where you can view this list and complete registration for your preferred classes.

Using Subject, Course and Section to enroll via Express Registration:

After entering your course information, click Submit at the bottom of the screen. The courses you’ve selected will be placed on your Preferred Sections List; you will be automatically taken to the Register and Drop Sections form where you can view this list and complete your registration.

Registering from Register and Drop Sections

Once you place courses on this list, you may register for all of them with one action, or you may perform various registration activities on your preferred sections on an individual basis. You may place any class that you’d like on your preferred sections list regardless of your eligibility to enroll in the class, however, once you attempt to register for the class, your eligibility will be checked. If you do not meet the eligibility criteria you will not be permitted to enroll in the class. In other words, the presence of a course on your preferred sections list does not indicate in any way that you will be able to register for that class.

Once you complete Express Registration or Search and Register, you will automatically be re-directed to the screen that contains your preferred sections list. At this time, you can attempt to enroll immediately, or you can log out and return to your list at a later date. You can access a previously created list by choosing Register and Drop Sections on the student menu page.

On the list, you can perform the following functions:

After making your choices, click Submit at the bottom of the page. If your registration was successful, you will be taken to a Registration Results screen that confirms your actions. You may want to print this screen for your records. You will also receive a confirmation email.

wareg

IMPORTANT NOTE!!!! If you have any errors, NONE of your requests will be processed. Your courses will remain in the Preferred Sections list, but a seat in the class is NOT being held. You will have to resolve the errors and start again.

Example of error message:

Some common registration errors are:

1) Trying to register for too many credits
2) Choosing classes that have overlapping meeting times
3) Your advisor has not cleared you to register on-line
4) You have an account balance greater than the allowable minimum and you are not on a payment plan

See the appropriate office and make any necessary corrections and re-submit your request.

If your request is being rejected and you don’t know why, contact the Records Office immediately at helen.bailey@lmunet.edu or by calling 423.869.6313.

Remember To Save Your Results!

Once you’ve completed registration, the Records Office advises that you print a copy of your confirmation page, or your new schedule from the My Schedule page. This will serve as your receipt of registration.

Searching for sections

You are NOT required to log in to search for sections.

You can perform your search for sections from Pathway or the individual WebAdvisor application.

Once you are logged into Pathway or WebAdvisor, click Search for Sections

It can be found from the link provided in the quick links section or the link from within the WebAdvisor web part menu.

When on the Search for Sections menu, you must select a Term and at least one other search criteria. Once you have selected your search choices, click Submit.

A list of courses matching the selected criteria is displayed:
  • Click your browser's print button to print the results
  • Clicking on an individual course section will give you the section information

Search and Register for Sections

If you are unsure of the course number or synonym information, use Search and Register for Sections instead of Express Registration. You only need to know which courses you must take for your program. Choose Search/Register for Sections from the Registration Menu. You will be taken to a search page that looks the same as the one you use to search for courses. As on that page, you will be allowed to search by course level, day, instructor, etc.., two fields must be completed to allow the search. Click the “Submit” button – you will then see a listing of classes based upon your search parameters.

To choose a class, click the checkbox in the Select Column.

After selecting, click Submit at the bottom of the screen. The courses you’ve selected will be placed on your Preferred Sections List; you will be automatically taken to the Register and Drop Sections form where you can view this list and complete your registration. (See Section on Registering from Register and Drop Sections).

Making Changes To Your Schedule

Now that you’ve completed registration, you may have re-considered some of your choices. To remove classes from your schedule, choose “Register and Drop Sections” from the Registration menu in WebAdvisor. You will be taken once again to the screen that contains your wishlist at the top; scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will see all of your currently enrolled classes (present and future semesters). Drop classes by placing a check in a box in the “Drop” column next to the course you wish to remove from your schedule. After checking the appropriate classes, click the “Submit” button.

wareg

After submitting your choices, you will be taken to a Registration Results screen. Check the messages on this screen to be sure you’ve dropped the correct classes. As with registration, it is also advisable to print this screen or a copy of your updated class schedule.

IMPORTANT TIP!!

You can add & drop in one transaction by first placing the courses you wish to add on your preferred sections list, then by doing both of the following: select the actions you wish to perform, and check the courses you wish to drop (in the “current registration” section) before clicking submit. WebAdvisor will attempt to perform both of these requests at once.

Troubleshooting Web Registration

There are some common technical problems that students may experience when using Web Registration:

1) Log in times out. For security reasons, WebAdvisor will “time out” your session if your screen remains idle for 30 minutes. Therefore, it is advisable that you plan your schedule prior to your registration. However, if you are timed out during you registration, simply log back in and start again. Also, be sure to log out when you are finished.

2) Request timed out” or “subroutine failed to complete successfully” message appears after you click the submit button. This is a blip in the system that happens rarely. The best solution is to close your browser, re-open it, and start again.

3) The server is down for maintenance; try again later. WebAdvisor will be down for regular maintenance between 1:00 A.M. and 5:00 A.M.

The answer to most registration questions can be found in these instructions. You should also consult the current Student Handbook and appropriate College Catalog. If you are experiencing technical problems that you cannot find the answer for contact the Information Services Help Desk immediately during office hours by calling 423-869-7411 or emailing ishelpdesk@lmunet.edu or submitting a work order here.

You also have the option to register in paper format.
