Dr. Hilberg joined LMU in 2012 as the Director of the Honors Program after having worked at the University Honors College at the University of Pittsburgh since 2001, becoming its Director of Academic Affairs in 2007. He was a double major in psychology and religion at Wabash College (IN) and then attended Miami University (OH) where he earned an MA in religion and an MA in philosophy. He earned a doctoral certificate in cultural studies and his PhD in religious studies specializing in philosophy of religion at the University of Pittsburgh.
Hilberg has been teaching since 1996, has been the faculty sponsor for an undergraduate research journal and has directed an undergraduate research fellowship program. He has had the pleasure and privilege to work with Rhodes Scholars and winners of many other prestigious awards. As much as he enjoys his own teaching and research, Dr. Hilberg’s greatest source of professional gratification has always involved helping his students to succeed. He says, “There is no greater reward than helping students to become the best versions of themselves.” He advises students and directs the Honors Program with this goal in mind.
Hilberg published his book Religious Truth and Religious Diversity in 2009 and has had his work appear in numerous scholarly journals. He and his wife, Jaclyn, enjoy reading, exercising and discussing various topics of the day. He considers converting her from a Yankees fan to a White Sox fan one of his greatest accomplishments.
