Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence -- About LMU Online
As the popularity of the Internet has increased, so has the demand for online learning. Online learning can be defined as distant e.g., web-based, video-streamed, learning opportunities that do not require the learner to attend face-to-face, on-campus class meetings. These courses allow the self-directed learner to work on course requirements based upon their schedule in coordination with their instructor's requirements. The learner typically communicates with the instructor and other learners in their online community through email and web-based chats and discussion boards. It is always a good idea to send your web-based instructor a brief but well worded introductory email about yourself and your experiences with online learning prior to the start of your web-based course (s).
Online learning is ideal for individuals who are employed full-time and cannot attend face-to-face class meetings. Through the use of effective instructional methods and new technologies, online learning provides the same quality and rigor expected in our institutions of higher education. If you have any questions regarding online learning at Lincoln Memorial University please view the Student Guide to Online Learning or contact Jeff Burleson, Director of E-Learning, at Lincoln Memorial University at 423-869-6268 or by email at jeff.burleson@lmunet.edu.
