IV.       Course description:

                        A study to develop skills in the utilization of radiographic equipment on

animals and the positioning of animals for various radiographic exposures.  Emphasis on radiation safety and methods of obtaining high quality diagnostic

radiographs.

                        Radiography in Veterinary Technology 3rd edition; Lisa M. Lavin

 

VI.       Course objectives:

                        The student will have the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge

            necessary to use radiographic equipment and produce high quality diagnostic

            x-rays.  The student will be familiar with radiation safety techniques.

 

VII.      Methods of instruction:

                        Lecture, radiographic examples and hands on experience with x-ray

            equipment and dark room procedures.

 

VIII.     Course requirements:

                        The student must attend and participate in lecture.  Methods of evaluation

            will include 3 written tests, 1 practical exam and class attendance.

 

IX.       Units of instruction:

                        X-ray production, components of x-ray machine, radiation safety

                        Exposure factors, radiographic quality, image receptors

                        Film processing, radiographic technique charts

                        Quality assurance and control, artifacts and errors

                        Positioning

                        Small animal forelimb

                        Small animal pelvis and hindlimb

                        Small animal skull and spine

                        Small animal soft tissue

                        Special procedures, ultrasound, contrast studies

                        Large animal radiography

                        Avian/exotic radiography
