    I.      Pre-requisites:  None

 

   II.      Course Description:

                        Provide knowledge and skills pertaining to physical fitness which can be used                             towards lifelong physical activity.

 

 III.      This course is designed with two components.  First emphasis is placed on aerobic

            conditioning and walking and jogging at target heart rates.  The second component

            concentrates on toning muscle stature through interval weight training exercises.

   V.     Course Objectives:

                        1.         Understand terminology related to fitness and conditioning.

                        2.         Identify target heart rates of each individual.

                        3.         Understand that fitness is a product of duration, frequency and force.

                        4.         Have the competence of weight training procedures and weight machines.

                        5.         Understand the importance of being physically fit.

 

  VI.     Outline of Course Instruction:  Each class will be broken into two components:

 

                        Part 1:  Aerobic Exercise – Includes walking, jogging, aerobics, bench stepping.

                        Part 2:  Weight Training – Includes isometric, isokinetic, and isotonic exercises.

  IX.     Methods of Instruction:    Lecture, demonstration, participation.

 

   X.     Course Requirements:

                        1.         Attendance:

                                                Attendance is mandatory!  Anyone missing more than 5 sessions                                                            will automatically fail the course.

                        2.         Participation:

                                                Each individual is expected to participate in full capacity.  Grade

                                                will be affected by poor participation.

                        3.         Cognitive Test:

                                                There will be 1 written test at the end of the year.
