Course Description: French I I I is an introductory French course. The overall goal of

this course is to help students develop proficiency in the four basic language skills of

listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students will master some basic vocabulary

and structures of the French language. Also, students will acquire an appreciation of the

breadth of the French-speaking world and become familiar with contemporary French

life. Culture will be taught within the context of the language.

Course Content: The course will consist of the first four units of the text. These units

will be embellished with presentations of French songs, poetry, newspapers, magazines,

etc., focusing upon the teaching of language. Simulation games, dialogue presentations,

and videos will be used to facilitate language acquisition.

Evaluation: Four unit exams will be given. These exams will comprise three-fourths of

the final grade. One-fourth of the grade will come from small quizzes and class

participation.

Class Attendance: Good class attendance is necessary in learning a foreign language

since the facilitation of the language occurs at this time. Make-up work for unit tests and

quizzes should be done within one week of the test. It is the responsibility of the student

to arrange a time with the instructor to take the test.
