York: Houghton Mifflin Company. (I 997) Course Description: French I I I is an introductory French course. The
overall goal of this
course is to help students develop proficiency in the four basic language
skills of listening,
speaking, reading, and writing. Students will master some basic vocabulary and
structures of the French language. Also, students will acquire an
appreciation of the breadth
of the French-speaking world and become familiar with contemporary French life.
Culture will be taught within the context of the language. Course Content: The course will consist of the first four units of the
text. These units will
be embellished with presentations of French songs, poetry, newspapers,
magazines, etc.,
focusing upon the teaching of language. Simulation games, dialogue
presentations, and
videos will be used to facilitate language acquisition. Evaluation: Four unit exams will be given. These exams will
comprise three-fourths of the
final grade. One-fourth of the grade will come from small quizzes and class participation. Class Attendance: Good class attendance is necessary in learning a
foreign language since
the facilitation of the language occurs at this time. Make-up work for unit
tests and quizzes
should be done within one week of the test. It is the responsibility of the
student to
arrange a time with the instructor to take the test.
