IV. COURSE DESCRIPTION:
ART 110 is a studio course designed to develop basic
drawing skills in a variety of media and techniques.

VI. COURSE OBJECTIVES:
1. To develop competency
in drawing through the practice
of different
techniques:
a. value studies
b. gesture drawing
c. contour drawing of both positive and
negative
shapes
d. textural studies
e. figure studies
f.
imaginative drawings
2. To develop competency in drawing through practice in
a variety of media including
charcoal, pencil, marker,
and pen and ink.
3. To develop the
ability to block out shapes from the
general to the
specific, to sight angles, and to
measure size
relationships
4. To develop the
ability to plan balanced and visually
interesting
compositions.
5. To develop the ability to originate personally
meaningful ideas for drawings.
VII. METHODS OF
INSTRUCTION:
The primary learning method in this course is studio practice
supplemented by demonstrations, individual guidance by the instructor, informal
discussions, and group critiques.
VI. COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
1. Regular class attendance.
Only with regular
attendance can a student benefit from guidance while
work is in progress,
interact with and learn from
the group, and
adequately complete studio assignments.
Therefore, the
professor reserves the right to lower the
final grade of a
student with more than six absences or
excessive tardiness or
early departures from class.
2. Completion of all
assignments by due date. Work will
be turned in for evaluation
periodically (approximately
every ten class periods). Any work
missing or incomplete
will result in a lowered grade. Late
work will not be
accepted. This work will count as 85%
of the final
grade.
3. Participation in class critiques. Periodically there
will be critiques of assignments.
Work should be ready
to be discussed on critique days.
Serious, thoughtful,
perceptive comments about one's own
and others' work
are encouraged.
4. Completion of final
project and participation in
final critique. The
final project will be presented
during the regularly scheduled exam period. It must be
original, in a medium used in class, and completed
during this semester.
It counts as 15% of final grade.
