IV.              Course Description: 

A studio course utilizing a step-by-step approach to vocal technique

which introduces musical and vocal fundamentals.

V.                 Text:    Christy, Van. Foundations in Singing ; (Blacklick, Ohio; McGraw-Hill Book Co., 1997). Includes accompaniment cassette.

VI.              Course Objectives: 

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1)     Demonstrate the proper vocal attitude of posture, breathing, tone

and resonance, song preparation, English diction, performance, and

extension of the voice.

2)     Exhibit a general knowledge of vocal physiology and music

fundamentals.

VII.           Methods of Instruction and Learning:

Demonstration, vocalization, and regular rehearsal.

VIII.        Course Requirements and Evaluation Methods:

One lesson per week. Attendance is required.

Four hours each week of individual practice is required. The term “practice”

includes mental, as well as vocal preparation.

Concert/Recital Attendance: Two concerts on the LMU Community Concert Series, plus written critiques.

Grading Scale:  Private Lesson          25%

                          Recital Attendance   25%

                          Private Practice         25%

                          Voice Jury                 25%

       100-90=A;   89-80=B;   79-70=C;   69-60=D;   59-0=F
