III.COURSE PREREQUISITES: ART 110 and successive  courses taken                            in sequence

 IV.COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Art 210, 310, and 410 are studio courses designed to build          on previously acquired drawing skills. The emphasis is on more finished drawings in a variety of techniques and media. Art 410 further develops drawing skills with emphasis on evolving a personal style and preparing for exhibition.

VI. COURSE OBJECTIVES:

1.  To develop the student's ability to plan balanced

         compositions working toward finished drawings

2.  To familiarize the student with drawing from the model,               

    still life, and landscape

3.  To develop the student's flexibility in approaches to      

    drawing using a variety of techniques and media

4.  To develop the student's understanding of perspective  

    drawing

5.  To encourage the student to find suitable subject

    matter for drawings on her/his own

6.  To encourage the student's imagination as a source for 

    drawings

7.  To develop the student's ability to freely discuss     

    his/her own work and that of others in group critiques

8.  To encourage the student's continued, independent 

    interest in drawing through a required sketchbook

9.  To introduce the student to matting techniques

 

VII. METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:

The primary method of instruction is studio practice both in and out of class, supplemented by guidance from the instructor, informal discussions, and group critiques.

VIII.COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

1.  Regular attendance. The instructor reserves the right

    to lower the final grade of a student with more than   

    four absences.

2.  Completion of in-class and out-of-class assignments by

    critique date.

3.  Participation in class critiques.

4.  Submission of all work by due date. Work will be turned 

    in two times during the semester for grading. Any

    work missing or incomplete will result in a lowered  

    grade. Late work will not be accepted. Each grade will

    count as 40% of the final grade (or 80% total).

5.  Submission of sketchbook. Sketchbooks will be turned in

    twice during the semester for grading. They must

    contain drawings done during this semester only. Late

    sketchbooks will not be accepted. The sketchbook grades

    will be averaged together for 10% of the final grade.

6.  Completion of final project and participation in final

    critique. During the regularly scheduled exam period

    class will meet for a presentation of final projects

    which will count as 10% of the final grade.

IX. UNITS OF INSTRUCTION:

1.  Still life subject matter -- 2 to 3 weeks

2.  Figure drawing/head studies -- 4 weeks

3.  Landscape drawing -- 2 weeks

4.  Perspective drawing (interior and exterior views) -- 2   

    weeks

5.  Personal imaginative drawings -- 2 weeks

     6.  Matting workshop --l week

7.  Final project
