IV. Course Description:
English 100 is designed to prepare students for
composition courses English 111 and 112. The course emphasizes
study skills, reading comprehension and speed, effective sentence construction
and paragraph development. Vocabulary
development is also stressed.

VI. Course Objectives:
English 100 is designed to strengthen skills in these
areas: vocabulary, critical reading; grammar and usage;
clear and
precise sentence writing; paragraph unity, development and
coherence;
and proofreading and editing.
VII. Methods of Instruction: This course will be conducted as a
writing workshop
where students will read, write and discuss at each
meeting. All students are
required to meet with an English tutor at the Tagge
Center one hour each week.
VIII. Course Requirements/ Methods of Evaluation:
Attendance in class and at weekly
tutoring sessions at the Tagge Center are very important
for success. Therefore,
students who miss more
than six class meetings or three tutoring sessions may
receive a grade of NC
(no credit) at semester's end.
Work turned in late will receive a lower grade. Students
will
maintain a notebook that will define 15 vocabulary words
each week for a grade.
One English Brushup chapter will be studied each week, and each student needs
To pass the chapter test at a rate of 70%. In order to
pass the course, a student
Must pass 12 of the 15 tests in addition to other course
requirements.
