General course content: This will be a seminar style class. Readings and discussions will be mandatory, participation expected and highly regarded. The strongest basis for management is the ability to work within groups, understand the dynamic of different personalities, and to develop and hone the methods for strengthening the diversity as well as tapping the inherent possibility of all situations. To this end, classes will be organic and developmental, and all students will take different roles within the study in an effort to better understand all sides of a situation and therefore find the most expedient and integral answer to opportunities.
The major assignments include one or more case studies every week, keeping up with the readings online during the students’ own time, a possible field trip (date and time to be determined from all schedules), a paper, four pop quizzes or writings, and a take home exam at the end of the semester.
The paper topic must be discussed with instructor prior to research (note date on syllabus for topic choice and paper due date). If the topic choice is late, points will be taken off the final paper grade. Paper will be 10-15 pages in length and have a complete bibliography, pages of which will not be included in the final paper count. Papers will be turned in on time or they will not be accepted.
The four pop quizzes/writings may be in class or take home writing assignments, as indicated by instructor. Thorough development and communication is expected and length will be chosen at time of assignment.
The case studies will be given the week before the discussion. The first half of each class will be spent on examination of the subject and the last half of each class will be spent on the case study assigned.
Grading policies: Because of the nature of the course, a large part of the grade depends on your participation. Since we only meet once a week, attendance is key. You are allowed one (1) absence. Each absence after that will drop your final grade one full letter grade.
4 quizzes/writings 20%
paper 20%
final exam 20%
participation 40%
