Units: three semester hours credit Text: Business Law Today, The Essentials, Roger LeRoy Miller and Gaylord A. Jentz (Thomson-West 2006, 7th ed.). Other materials found on website: http://blt.westbuslaw.com Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, a student will demonstrate an understanding of the principles and terminology commonly utilized in the American Legal System as they relate to business and the basic ability to apply this knowledge in a conceptual fashion to various business situations. This shall be accomplished by lectures and classroom discussion tailored to the required reading assignments and class work. Instructional Methods: Lecture integrated with class discussion; visual aids and handouts; homework, weekly quizzes and periodic testing. Evaluation of Student Performance: Periodic testing including midterm examination (30%) and comprehensive final examination (40%) using multiple choice and essay questions; class participation, including attendance, attention and involvement (15%); and weekly quizzes (15%). The Senior Writing Requirement (Busn 440Z) will be graded Pass/Fail. Otherwise, the course will follow the grading scale as outlined in the college catalog for the final assigned letter grade and as follows: A = 95 to100, A- = 90 to94, B+ = 88 to 89, B = 85 to 87, B- = 80-84, C+ = 78-79, C = 75-77, C- = 70-74, D+ = 68-69, D = 65-67, D- = 60-64, and F = 0-59. General Requirements: If you must miss a class, make every effort to let the instructor know beforehand. If you cannot do that, contact the instructor as soon as possible after the missed class session to obtain the latest assignment. Missed assignments and examinations should be made up by the next class session.
