REPORTING SYNOPSIS

      For February 8, 2007, the LMU Academic Council reports the following synopsis:

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Dr. Cheryl Cardell, Vice-President, Commission on Colleges, SACS, will be LMU’s SACS liaison and will also be the speaker on August 17 at LMU’s fall conference.

Dates of program re-accreditation and visits were reviewed.

Reminders:

            Summer and fall schedules due February 26; workloads submitted to Barney - ASAP; full-time and adjunct faculty submit vitas to Barney by March 1.

 

BUSINESS

ACTIONS

·        ARTS & SCIENCESProposal to delete Interdisciplinary Science major; approved.

·        ARTS & SCIENCESProposal to approve course – SOCW 420; approved.

·        ARTS & SCIENCESProposal to add courses to the Criminal Justice (CJ) program. Committee agreed to vote as a package on courses proposed (CRIM 205, 215, 220, 300, 310, 315, 380, 420, 480, 498); all proposals approved. 

·        Concept approval: NURSING AND ALLIED HEALTH Nurse Anesthesia concentration located within the Master of Science in Nursing program; approved.

·        SPECIAL TOPICS at the undergraduate level – when submitting the proposed course schedule submit the UNDERGRADUATE Special Topics Course Approval Form. Motion that any Special Topics x95 course will use the form with signatures (chair and dean); to be effective immediately; motion approved.

 

How students are recruited for academic programs at LMU – review and discuss ways to improve Admissions’ recruits for all majors.

 

OTHER

Academic Services:

            Extended Sites, announced there is a new computer lab at the Corbin facility.

           

Faculty/Staff conference: planning an advising summit for the conference and a discussion about how to improve advising, working with students, scheduling, etc.

 

Reiterated: students must be reminded to check and use their LMU email accounts as this is the required method for university correspondence.
