ABOUT US:

In October of 2007, The Student Osteopathic Surgical Association of the Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College Of Osteopathic Medicine was created. The Student Osteopathic Surgical Association (S.O.S.A.) is the student organization of the American College Of Osteopathic Surgeons (A.C.O.S.) and functions under the auspices of the ACOS.

All members of LMU-DCOM SOSA are nationally registered and governed by an officer board and a faculty advisor. We serve our members by providing an environment to help enrich and nurture a passion for surgery, prepare them for future surgical rotations, and provide them with a forum in which they can learn about the field of surgery, particularly from an osteopathic perspective.

We also strive to enhance the mission of LMU-DCOM by increasing and providing the needed surgical health care throughout the Appalachian region and  beyond. At LMU-DCOM SOSA we are committed and strive for excellence in providing our members with the preparation and education necessary to become outstanding future osteopathic surgeons.

The Mission of the SOSA chapter at LMU-DCOM is to:

- Stress the understanding of osteopathic principles
in relationship to disease in the practice of surgery.

       - Help to promote education in the field of
surgery, including  gowning and gloving, scrubbing,
sterile technique, suturing, and tying techniques,
         operating room behavior, instrumentation,
         universal precautions, osteopathic manipulative
management of the surgical patient, pre- and post-
operative management of surgical patients, and
         surgical documentation; and

       - Provide a forum for discussion amongst students
         and surgeons.
