Keeping U Healthy Keeps LMU Healthy!
Letter to LMU Parents and Guardians regarding H1N1
The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised the threat level of the H1N1 ("swine flu") virus to a Level 6, indicating the worldwide spread of the disease. At LMU, we are committed to keeping our main campus and extended sites healthy through common sense practices and widespread education about the H1N1 virus.
Symptoms of H1N1:
- Fever > 100.4 degrees F
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Runny or stuffy nose
- Body aches
- Headaches
- Chills and fatigue
- Sometimes vomiting and diarrhea
If you believe you are sick, please stay home and contact your physician for treatment. Isolate yourself for 7 days after a confirmed diagnosis of H1N1, or for 24 hours after symptoms disappear...whichever is longer.
Practice Good Hygiene:
- Cover your mouth and nose when you cough and sneeze.
- Wash your hands frequently, or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer (62% or greater)
- Properly dispose of tissues after use
- Wipe down keyboards, phones, desks, door knobs and any other surface that many people may touch
- Avoid sharing pens and pencils, or wipe them down if sharing is absolutely necessary
- Remove candy jars from desks - an unexpected sneeze near the jar could spread germs to many people
- Avoid touching your eyes after coughing or sneezing
- Maintain a safe personal distance of three feet - this is the general radius of germs after a sneeze
- Carry hand sanitizer, gloves and a mask with you as a precaution
