Institutional Review Board (IRB)



In compliance with federal regulations (45 CFR 46) and the University's OHRP-issued Federal-wide Assurance, Lincoln Memorial University’s Institutional Review Board must review all projects involving human subjects. The chairperson or one or more IRB members designated by the chairperson may determine one of three actions: exempt, expedited review or full board review.  All projects that do not qualify for exempt or expedited review will undergo full board review.

Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)

All animal care and use is under the oversight of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). The IACUC conforms to the general public health service guidelines (PHS policy at IV.A.3.B) concerning membership. IACUC responsibilities include the inspection of the animal facilities as well as all laboratories that use animals. The IACUC must approve all protocols before animals may be ordered or used and must certify that all individuals are appropriately trained.

The IACUC meets regularly to review all research or educational use of vertebrate animals at the University. No use of animal can begin without the written approval of the IACUC.
