The university believes that one of the major cornerstones of meaningful existence is service to humanity. Lincoln Memorial University's curriculum and commitment to teaching are based on the belief that graduates must be able to communicate clearly and effectively.
The university seeks to advance the Cumberland Gap region through community service programs in continuing education, leadership development, recreation, and the fine and performing arts. As an educational, cultural, and recreational center of the region, Lincoln Memorial University is committed to developing and maintaining facilities which are conducive to the development of body, mind, and spirit.
The professional development of educators is a collaborative responsibility shared by the Center for Professional Collaboration, Lincoln Memorial University, educational institutions, and local communities in the Cumberland Gap region of Appalachia. The benefits and expectations related to professional development include: -
attainment of specific knowledge and skills through demonstration, practice, feedback, and reflection
- dual mentorship of pre-service teachers and in-service teachers in a mentoring environment
- transfer of new skills and practices related to the PK-12 classroom
- participation in the development and implementation of programs in a variety of educational setting
- incorporation of current research about effective teaching and effective teacher education programs
- supporting graduates in their first year of teaching and throughout their teaching career by meeting individualized professional needs
- demonstrating and promoting teacher autonomy and leadership
- effectively exhibiting a commitment to professional growth by engaging in professional development activities
