Baseball Continues To Add To Recruiting Class
Head Baseball Coach Jeff Sziksai announced today the addition of seven more
student athletes that will be joining the Railsplitter baseball program this
fall. On the addition of the newest members his recruiting class Sziksai
commented, “I am very pleased with where we are with this group. We have
targeted areas that need improvement, and have added talented players in
those areas. I am looking forward to getting everyone on the field together
this fall.”

Willis Headed To The Cubs
Organization
Friday
was a big day for former Lincoln Memorial University outfielder TeWayne
Willis (Hazard, KY). A two-year starter for the Railsplitters, Willis was
drafted by the Chicago Cubs organization on Friday in the 28th round
of the Major League Baseball draft.

After losing the opening game
of the series with Mars Hill College on Saturday 7-6, the Railsplitters split
with the Lions on Sunday, winning the continuation game from Saturday 5-4, and
losing the third and final game of the series 15-8.

the tri-state area forced Lincoln Memorial and Mars Hill College to postpone the

Weekend Sweep of LMU, Winning 14-4 And 2-0
Catawba completed a three-game sweep over visiting Lincoln Memorial in South
Atlantic Conference baseball action, winning both ends of a doubleheader on
Saturday afternoon at Newman Park by the scores of 14-4 and 2-0. The wins
keep the 28th-ranked Catawba Indians atop the league standings, improving to
27-12 overall and 13-5 in the SAC. The Railsplitters fall to 22-17-1 and
4-11.

Catawba scored 13 runs in the third inning and out-slugged visiting Lincoln
Memorial 24-12 in South Atlantic Conference baseball action on Friday night at

Wild Pitch Costly In Rollins'
Extra Inning Loss
A wild pitch in the top of the 10th inning brought in the go-ahead run for
visiting Lincoln Memorial in the Rollins baseball team's 10-9 loss at Alfond
Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. The Tars fell to 21-11-1 with the loss, while
the Railsplitters finish their Florida trip with an overall mark of 22-14-1.

Florida Tech, ranked 15th
in the most recent NCBWA poll and 25th in the
Collegiate Baseball poll, had a
rough time against Lincoln Memorial Tuesday afternoon as the Panthers were shut
out 3-0 by freshman lefthander Steven Starbird. With the loss, Tech drops to
24-9-1 on the season, while the Railsplitters improve to 21-14-1.

The Lincoln
Memorial University baseball team picked up its 20th win of the
season Monday evening by shutting out host Eckerd College 7-0 in St. Petersburg,
Florida.

After
defeating Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Kentucky on Friday 14-1
and 42-2, the Railsplitter baseball team traveled to Florida over the
weekend and began their spring break tour of the Sunshine State with a 7-3
loss to Florida Southern College.

On a day when the focus of most sports fans
was on basketball, the Lincoln Memorial University baseball team hosted the
Cougars of Caldwell College and came away with a 4-2 win in nine innings to
improve to 17-13-1 on the year.

After dropping the opening game of the series on Friday night 8-6, the Lincoln
Memorial University Railsplitters bounced back to win games two and three on

league-leading Lenoir-Rhyne College.

Matt Webb went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and three RBI as the No. 27
Tusculum College baseball team defeated Lincoln Memorial University, 5-3 Sunday
afternoon at Pioneer Park. The Pioneers (8-5, 3-3 SAC) complete the sweep of
the weekend South Atlantic Conference series with the Railsplitters (10-9, 2-4
SAC).

27 Tusculum Sweeps SAC Pair Over LMU
Matt Ford went 3-for-6 on the day, including his second home run of the
season as No. 27 Tusculum College swept a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader
over visiting Lincoln Memorial University Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Park.
Tusculum (7-5, 2-3 SAC) got a stellar pitching effort by Raymond Ruggles
(1-1) in a 7-2 win in the opener, while Carlos Rivera went 2-for-3 and
scored a pair of runs in a 7-4 victory in the night-cap.

From Ohio Valley
The Lincoln Memorial University baseball team managed to come away with three
wins over the weekend by splitting with the Fighting Scots of Ohio Valley
University on Saturday, winning 12-9 and losing 9-6. On Sunday the
Railsplitters swept the final two games of the series, winning 8-4 and 5-2 to
move to 5-4 on the year.

Improbable Comeback For USCA
Trailing 11-7 and down to their final out, USC Aiken pushed across four
runs, the last on an RBI single up the middle by Ryne Salmon, to force extra
innings. In the bottom of the 12th, David Vitko’s bases loaded single to
right field plated Brad Johnson with the game winner as the 31st-ranked
Pacers (2-1) pulled out the improbable 12-11 win over Lincoln Memorial (1-2)
on Sunday evening at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.

Derek Treece belted
two home runs including a clutch three-run blast in the top of the 13th
inning to lead Lincoln Memorial (1-1) to an early season 9-5 upset win over
31st-ranked USC Aiken (1-1) on Saturday afternoon at Roberto Hernandez
Stadium.

USC Aiken Takes Game One
Against LMU 10-4
Chad Jacobsen smacked a grand slam, driving in five on the night, while four
more Pacers had multi-hit performances as #31 USC Aiken (1-0) knocked off
Lincoln Memorial (0-1) 10-4 in both team’s season openers on a chilly Friday at
Roberto Hernandez Stadium. For the Pacers it was their seventh victory in the
past nine lid-lifters while exacting some revenge from the Railsplitters’ 10-0
upset in the 2007 debut.

season.

Sox Draft LMU Signee Kenneth Roque In 10th Round
LMU baseball team’s recruiting class took a hit this past week when Kenneth
Roque, a short stop from Cidra, Puerto Rico was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in
the 10th Round of the 2007 Major League Baseball First Year Player
Draft. Kenneth signed with LMU this past fall, and will forgo his college
career to play professional baseball.

School & Junior College Prospect Baseball Instructional Showcase
Lincoln Memorial University will host an instructional showcase for high school
and junior college baseball prospects who have not yet signed a national letter
of intent on Saturday, June 2nd at Lamar Hennon Field on the campus
of LMU. The registration will begin at 8 a.m. and the showcase will begin at 9
a.m.
