Female Athletes Of The Year
Lincoln Memorial University softball infielder/pitcher Sara Henn (Kettering,
OH) and women’s soccer forward Heloisa de Oliveira (Campinas, Brazil)
have been named LMU Co-Female Athletes of the Year by head coaches throughout
the University’s athletics department.

On the heel of
their third NCAA Division II Women’s Regional Soccer Tournament appearance in
the past four years, Lincoln Memorial University soccer Head Coach Helio D’Anna
recognized seniors Heloisa de Oliveira (Campinas, Brazil) and Patty
Spielman (Melbourne, FL) and sophomore Erin Longworth (Corunna, Ontario,
Canada) at Tuesday night’s annual Athletics Banquet on the LMU campus.

women’s soccer team graduated a very strong class in 2007 and several key

Spielman Named SAC Women’s Soccer Tournament Most Valuable Player
Sunday
afternoon’s South Atlantic Conference Championship match signified a monumental
personal milestone for Lincoln Memorial University women’s soccer senior
Patty Spielman (Melbourne, FL).
Spielman was named 2007 SAC Women’s Soccer Tournament MVP following
LMU’s 3-2 PK shootout win over Catawba College to capture their first league
championship.

Tournament Title The top-seeded Lincoln Memorial University Lady Railsplitters won the 2007
Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament Championship
following a 4-3 victory in a penalty kick shootout over Catawba College
Sunday afternoon at the Manchester Meadows Soccer Complex. The game ended in
a 0-0 draw after double overtime.

Thompson’s Late-Match Goal Allows Lady
Railsplitters To Compete For SAC Tournament Title
First Team All-South Atlantic Conference
member and LMU freshman forward Becky Thompson (Frederick, MD) scored her
10th goal of the season, which happened to be the game-winning-goal
in the Lady Railsplitter’s South Atlantic Conference semifinal match against
Tusculum College on Friday evening. Thompson’s goal came in the 81st
minute of the match and eventually lifted the Lady Railsplitters to a 1-0 win
over the Lady Pioneers to put LMU in Sunday’s conference championship match
against Catawba College.

On Thursday evening, the Lincoln Memorial University men’s and women’s soccer
teams attended the South Atlantic Conference Awards Ceremony in Rock Hill, South
Carolina. The event represented the beginning of the 2007 Food Lion South
Atlantic Conference Tournament.

The
Lincoln Memorial University men’s and women’s soccer teams both received good
news over the weekend. Although the men’s team was tied by Mars Hill (1-1) and
lost to Wingate over the weekend (3-0), the Railsplitters still managed to
clinch the league regular season title with a record of 5-1-1.

Lincoln Memorial University freshman defender Becky Thompson (Frederick,
Md.) scored the match-winner in the 83rd minute to give the Lady Railsplitters a
3-2 victory over Wingate University Sunday afternoon at Carlisle Field and the
Manchester Meadows Soccer Complex. Wet field conditions at the WU Soccer Complex
necessitated the date and venue change.

second time this season, the Lincoln Memorial University women’s soccer team
needed overtime to decide one of their matches. On Wednesday afternoon, the
Lady Railsplitters traveled to Clinton, South Carolina to take on
Presbyterian College and came away with a 3-2 win in the first overtime
