OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release September 12, 2007 LMU Golf Teams Place 5th & 8th In Anderson Invitational ANDERSON, SC – LMU Head Golf Coach Travis Muncy and his teams kicked off the 2007 fall season on Monday and Tuesday by participating in the Anderson College Invitational in Anderson, South Carolina. The Lincoln Memorial men finished 5th among the nine teams involved in the tournament, shooting a two-day total 598, 22 strokes over par and only 17 strokes behind tournament champion Tusculum College. The Railsplitters were paced by Josh Collins (Luttrell, TN) who turned in rounds of 75 and 72 for a two-day total 147 to finish in 8th place overall, only three strokes over par and nine strokes behind the leader. LMU’s Cory Talley (Newport, TN) also finished in the top-10, tying for 9th place overall with scores of 76 and 72 for a final 148, while teammate Steve Cambron (Middlesboro, KY) was 17th overall with a 151, shooting 76 on the first day and a 75 on day-two. LMU Newcomer Cory Bartlett (Shanty Bay, Ontario, Canada) finished 19th with scores of 74 and 78 for a final 152, while Kingston, Tennessee native Justin Edwards was 36th with scores of 83 and 80 for a two-day total 163. In women’s play, the Lady Railsplitters struggled somewhat in their first tournament of the year. Kirsten Wolff (Amherst burg, Ontario, Canada) led the way by finishing in a tie for 13th place overall with a final 170. Wolff finished 26 strokes over par and only 20 strokes behind the leader. Lady Railsplitter senior Sarah Oswalt (Bluffton, IN) finished 23rd overall with a final 177, shooting rounds of 89 and 88, while teammate Rhoni Daikoff (Orilla, Ontario, Canada) shot a 183, recording a 92 on the first day and a 91 on the second to finish in 29th place overall. Alancia Mason (Harrogate, TN) tied for 31st in her first collegiate match with scores of 93 and 92 for a total 185. The LMU men’s golf team will be in action again September 23-25 when it travels to Brevard, North Carolina for the Brevard College Fall Invitational, while the Lady Railsplitters will have until September 30 thru October 2 to work on their game when they play in the Tusculum College Fall Classic. -LMU- For additional
