Spurs Cruises to Win at West Georgia Invitational

CARROLLTON, GA – Lincoln Memorial University women’s golfer Rachel Spurs (Whitby, Ontario) finished as the medalist in 1st place of the recent University of West Georgia Invitational Golf Tournament held earlier this week in Carrollton, Georgia.

Spurs, a three-year letterman at LMU turned in rounds of 80 and 74 for a two-day total 154 to take the remainder of the field by 11 strokes, finishing 10 strokes over par.

As a team, the Lady Railsplitters finished with a combined score of 749, behind champion Florida Tech (688) and host team West Georgia who posted a final 702 at the end of Tuesday’s tournament.

Spurs teammate Sarah Ross (Waveland, IN) finished as the next highest qualifier for Lincoln Memorial.  Ross placed 10th overall with scores of 92 and 93 for a total 185, while Sarah Oswalt (Bluffton, IN) was 12th with a 98 and a 105 for a score of 203.  Teammate Christin Rhyne (Powell, TN) finished close behind in 13th place with scores of 113 and 93 for a 207.

This Sunday through Tuesday the LMU women will travel to nearby Greeneville, TN to compete in the Agnes McAmis Invitational Tournament, hosted by Tusculum College at Link Hills Country Club.  The match will be the Lady Railsplitters' last before heading to Hot Springs, Arkansas later this month for the Gulf South Conference Tournament.
