Lady Railsplitters Fall from 3rd to 4th at LMU Invitational

TAZEWELL, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University Lady Railsplitter golf team fell back to 4th place, finishing with a two-day total 732 in final round of the LMU Invitational Golf Tournament held at Woodlake Golf Club to finish in 4th place Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Braves of West Georgia continued their assault of the six-team field by turning in a two-day team score of 671 to come away with the championship. 

In spite of several difficulties on the course, the University of Southern Indiana still managed to finish in 2nd place with a 675, while Campbellsville University cut three strokes off Monday’s score to edge Lincoln Memorial with a 331.  The University of the Cumberlands and Lambuth University did not finish the tournament.

LMU junior Rachel Spurs (Whitby, Ontario, Canada) struggled somewhat in Tuesday’s final round, falling seven strokes back from her performance on Monday.  Spurs combined Monday’s 77 with an 84 Tuesday to turn in a final 161, in 3rd place, seven strokes behind medalist Alisha Luigs of Southern Indiana. 

Lady Railsplitter Sarah Ross (Waveland, IN) also endured difficulties Tuesday afternoon.  Ross’s score of 88 on Monday surpassed her second day total 97 and forced her to close out the tournament with a total 185 to finish in 15th place overall.

Finishing behind Ross in 16th place was teammate Christin Rhyne (Powell, TN) who shot was consistent rounds of 94 and 95 for a final 189. While LMU sophomore Sarah Oswalt (Bluffton, IN) showed the most improvement among the Lady Railsplitters following the Monday’s first round, going from a 101 to a 96 for a final 197.

This weekend, the Lady Railsplitters will travel to Pinehurst, North Carolina for the St. Andrews Invitational which will be held March 19-21.  The match is one of three remaining regular season matches before the Gulf South Conference Tournament in Hot Springs, Arkansas April 19-21.
