LMU Men Finish 5th at Home Invitational

TAZEWELL, TN – The young Lincoln Memorial University men’s golf team couldn’t put together a strong enough run to move up in the pack in Tuesday’s final round of the LMU Spring Invitational Golf Tournament held at Woodlake Golf Club in Tazewell, Tennessee.

The University of West Georgia emerged as the winner, turning in a two day total 622 to capture the championship.  The University of the Cumberlands placed 2nd, only three strokes off the lead with their score of 625, while Walters State Community College’s Red-Team finished 3rd with 626, and Campbellsville University 4th with a 640.

The Railsplitters lost two strokes from Monday’s score of 323, shooting a 325 Tuesday for a final 648 to finish 5th, while Walters State Community College’s Blue-Team placed 6th with 649 and Lambuth University did not finish the tournament.

Railsplitter junior Craig Reasor (Big Stone Gap, VA) played consistently but finished two strokes back of his round of 74 on Monday, posting a 76 on Tuesday for a 150 to finish 2nd overall behind the University of the Cumberland’s Eric King (145).

Jeremy Gordon (Middlesboro, KY) of LMU added a 79 to Monday’s 77 for a final 156 to finish in 10th place, while junior Aaron Hammons (Saline, MI) made arguably the strongest charge of any of the Railsplitters, recording a final round of 77 following Monday’s score of 86.  Hammons finished the tournament with a total 163, tied for 17th place overall.

In 21st place, with scores of 81 and 83 for a final 164 was freshman Tyler Allen (O’Fallon, IL).  LMU’s only senior, Brad Davis (New Tazewell, TN) finished in a tie for 30th place overall with scores of 82 and 89 for a final 171, while Jacob Collingsworth also of New Tazewell turned in scores of 90 and 82 to tie for 32nd place with a 172.  Railsplitter freshman Justin Edwards (Kingston, TN) finished the tournament with scores of 92 and 93 for a final 185, placing 35th among the field.

The Railsplitters have four remaining regular season matches beginning with next weekend’s St. Andrews Invitational in Pinehurst, North Carolina before advancing to the Gulf South Conference Tournament in Hot Springs, Arkansas April 19-21.
