OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release October 4, 2006 Railsplitter Golf Team Bottoms Out at Tusculum Fall Classic GREENEVILLE, TN – This week’s Tusculum College Fall Classic was a disappointment for the Railsplitter golf team who finished tied for last place among nine teams competing for the tournament title. (Results) LMU turned in rounds of 303 and 300 for a total 603 to finish 35 strokes back in a tie with the University of Virginia at Wise in 8th place. Host team Tusculum College won the event by turning in a pair of 283 in rounds one and two for a total 566 for two strokes under par. Other schools involved in the tournament were St. Andrews Presbyterian (575 – 2nd place), Wingate University (582 – 3rd place), Lenoir-Rhyne College (584 – 4th place), Brevard College (594 – 5th place), Mars Hill College (597 – 6th place) and Walters State Community College in 7th place with a 599. Individually, LMU’s Charlie Hawes tied for 10th overall with rounds of 74 and 71 for a two day total 142, while Craig McLaughlin and Nolan Butler each shot a 77 and a 75 for a final 152 to tie for 34th place. LMU senior Aaron Hammons finished the tournament with a 78 and a 77 for a final 155 in a tie for 43rd place and junior Jeremy Gordon was disqualified. This weekend the Railsplitters will travel to Burkesville, Kentucky and Dale Hollow State Park for the Lindsey Wilson Fall Invitational.
