The Lady Railsplitters turned in a team score of 702 to finish in first place, edging out former Gulf South Conference opponent West Georgia (722), South Atlantic Conference foe Mars Hill College (745) and GSC powerhouse Montevallo (781). Lincoln Memorial University senior Rachel Spurs (Whitby, Ontario, Canada) made a run at medalist honors, but finished third behind West Georgia’s Natalie Beach and Montevallo’s Morgan Bell. Spurs turned in rounds of 78 and 91 for a two-day total 169 as the top Lady Railsplitter score. LMU freshman Katy Oliver also pushed for the top spot in the tournament, eventually tying for fourth place with rounds of 83 and 91 for a final 174. Junior Sarah Oswalt (Bluffton, IN) finished seventh for the two-day event by turning in a final score of 180 following rounds of 92 and 88. Lady Railsplitters Sarah Ross (Waveland, IN) and freshman Millicent Chaney finished eighth and tenth respectively. Ross shot rounds of 93 and 88 for a final 181, while Chaney shot a 91 and a 93 for a final 184. Lady Railsplitter newcomer Courtney Jeter tied for tied for seventeenth place with a pair of 106’s for a total 212. The first place finish is the Lady Railsplitter’s first of the fall schedule and will set the tone for the upcoming spring agenda that will pit the Lincoln Memorial women against some of the best teams in the southeastern United States in NCAA Division II women’s golf.
