OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release April 22, 2008 Ganss Named LMU Male Newcomer Of The Year HARROGATE, TN – Only a week after being named First Team All-South Atlantic Conference, men’s tennis freshman Hannes Ganss (Erlangen, Germany) has been named Male Newcomer of the Year at Lincoln Memorial University at the school's annual Athletics Banquet held Tuesday night on the LMU campus. A 6’6” product of Erlangen, Germany, Ganss has been huge impact on the Railsplitter program in only his first season of collegiate men’s tennis. Throughout the 2007-08 season, Ganss has accumulated a perfect 14-0 singles record with one match unfinished. In doubles play, Ganss and LMU teammates Bastian Guenther (Erlangen, Germany) and Zack Jones (Murfreesboro, TN) have tallied a 13-2 record. On Friday afternoon, Ganss and the Railsplitters were eliminated from SAC Championship contention when they lost to Newberry College 5-3 in the Semi-Finals of the South Atlantic Conference Tournament in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The Railsplitters end the year with a 4-11 record, and have begun to revitalize the men’s tennis program at Lincoln Memorial University. Only a year ago, the men’s program was winless in collegiate play, falling from its once national prominence. A year later and led by Ganss, the program has an up-and-coming class of athletes that should put the Railsplitters back on the national map in the near future. -LMU- For additional
