Lady Railsplitters Bitten By Union Bulldogs 

HARROGATE, TN – In their home-opener on Monday afternoon, the Lincoln Memorial University women’s tennis team was defeated by the Bulldogs of Union College 7-2 on LMU’s Annan Courts.

Lincoln Memorial’s only wins of the afternoon came at the No. 1 singles and No. 5 singles positions.  Lady Railsplitter senior Kathleen Rollet (Bouge Chambalud, France) defeated opponent Camila Cunha of Union at the No. 1 singles position in straight sets 6-0, 6-0, while senior Rachel Redmond (Somerset, KY) won over Lady Bulldog Katie Sakalauskas in the No. 5 singles match 8-5.

At the No. 2 singles position, LMU’s Martina Rezic (Pula, Croatia) was defeated by Union’s Juliana Negosek 1-6, 4-6, while Lady Railsplitter Sophie Denlinger (West Milton, OH) lost in No. 3 singles to Yeris Vargas 0-6, 0-6. 

In the final two singles matches, local product Mandy Mills (Tazewell, TN) was defeated by Union’s Ximena Aguilar 2-6, 1-6 at the No. 4 position, while freshman Middlesboro, Kentucky native Emily Osborne lost 0-8 to the Bulldogs Andressa Coelho.

In doubles play, LMU’s Rollet and Redmond lost to Negosek and Vargas 8-9 (3) in the No. 1 position, Denlinger and Osborne were defeated by Cunha and Aguilar 1-8 at the No. 2 spot and Rezic and Mills lost 5-8 to Sakalauskas and Coelho in the No. 3 doubles match.

Now 1-3 on the year, the LMU women travel to Newberry College on Wednesday for their first South Atlantic Conference match of the year.  The Lady Railsplitters will play a dual match with the Railsplitters that is set to get underway at 2:00 p.m.
