OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release September 12, 2006 LMU Volleyball Gets First Win Against SAC Opponent JEFFERSON CITY, TN – Although they aren’t eligible for conference play this year, a win over arch rival Carson-Newman College of the South Atlantic Conference is still a big deal to Lincoln Memorial’s Lady Railsplitter volleyball team. On Tuesday evening the Lady Railsplitters captured their first win this season over a South Atlantic Conference opponent when they knocked off the Lady Eagles of Carson-Newman 3-0 in Holt Field House in Jefferson City. Lincoln Memorial cruised to 30-25, 34-32 and 30-25 wins to improve to 9-3 on the year. Joy Otto (Barrington, IL), Alison Hess (Dayton, OH) and Amber Vanderlin (Mesquite, TX) led the Lady Railsplitter offensive attack. Otto was responsible for 13 kills, while Hess finished with 11, while also recording four service aces. Vanderlin ran the offence, dishing out 34 assists. Defensively, Lincoln Memorial was evenly balanced however; Jency Basinger (Temecula, CA) set the standard with 11 digs and was the only LMU player to reach double figures in the category. The Lady Railsplitters now prepare to switch gears for NAIA opponent Virginia Intermont College this Friday in Bristol, Virginia. It will be the only time LMU will face Virginia Intermont this season. Friday’s match gets underway at 7:00 p.m. on the VI campus. -LMU- For additional
